Hi Mr. Snider,   We have some questions about the NSF 50 membership selection process. I have been through the membership process last year and have been awarded a membership status as an Observer with Non-voting rights.   As an important manufacturer in the aquatic play industry in North America, we would like to understand why we are not a participating member with voting rights inside the NSF Recreational Water Facilities group?   As an established manufacturer we can bring a lot of insights to this group regarding products and applications.   Can you provide more details please?   Best Regards,     On Behalf of Vortex Aquatic Structures Intl     MARC-ANDRE LAURIN DESIGNER INDUSTRIEL-CHARGÉ DE PROJET, SECTEUR COMMERCIAL INDUSTRIAL DESIGNER – PROJECT LEAD, COMMERCIAL SEGMENT VORTEX AQUATIC STRUCTURES INTERNATIONAL INC. 328 AVRO, POINTE-CLAIRE, QUEBEC, CANADA H9R 5W5 +1.514.694.3868 Ext. 306   malaurin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx   FOLLOW US:               From: workgroup_mailer@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:workgroup_mailer@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 15 January 2018 10:51 AM To: Marc-Andre Laurin <MALaurin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Request to join RWF Task Group on Safety Surfacing Approved   Group : RWF Task Group on Safety Surfacing Membership Status : approved Group Link You have been added to the email distribution list for this group.

Dear Marc-Andre Laurin, As an employee of a manufacturer who makes multiple products within the scope of NSF Standard 50, I wanted to share my experience as an Observer with Non-voting rights.  First and foremost, you donât need a vote to participate in a significant and meaningful way.  Over the last decade I have proposed and participated in several revisions to NSF Standard 50.  I also know and work with others, with voting rights, who submitted Issue Paper containing proposals that were not adopted because they were out voted, so to speak.  The bottom line, quality proposals with supporting documentation and rationale are regularly adopted by Joint Committee, without regard for the proponents voting rights. As a fellow observer, I encourage you to engage the process by reading and providing comment in addition to providing Issue Papers when appropriate from your perspective.  In the meantime, you are not alone as there is a very long waiting list of manufacturers seeking voting rights on the Joint Committee. I am also an observer on the joint committee. I do bring 34 years experience in the swimming pool industry to try and help promote safe practices in our industry.

I feel the best way to have the ability to input some solid knowledge into the process is to join various Task Groups that may be working on improvements to safe practices related to your areas of expertise. This does primarily involve technical information.

I have always felt that the difficult part of this process for manufacturers is to divorce their promotion of their particular product from thoughtful consideration of the changes being considered. I feel confident that someone with your considerable background
and experience would fully embrace this responsibility to the industry.

Hello Marc-Andre,   As is our policy for membership, applications are forwarded to the JC Chair for consideration in becoming a voting member. As an ANSI Accredited Standards Developer, we must follow strict essential requirements for due process of American National Standards. Openness, lack of dominance and balance are 3 requirements we follow very closely and continuously strive to fulfill. As such, we endeavor to maintain adequate participation from the categories of Health and Safety, Industry and Users. The JC chair will evaluate these attributes and upon a seat opening will place you accordingly.   Currently, the committee is balanced in all catergories so an opening isn’t available. The chair and I discuss membership regularly and confirm new membership accordingly.   In the meantime, as an observer, you are entitled many of the attributes experienced by a full member. Observers are welcome to partipate by submitting issue papers (which request revisions to the Standard), participating in Task Group work (largely through straw ballots and teleconferences), attending the annual Joint Committee meeting, and bycommenting on Joint Committee approval ballots. All comments received on a ballot receive consideration, regardless if the comment comes from a voting member or observer.   Thanks to those that have responded to the group message here – lots of great feedback from the group. This discussion and collaboration is vital in Standards Development.   If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact me at jsnider@xxxxxxxx     Jason Snider Standards Development Liaison NSF International 734.418.6660     From: jc_rwf@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <jc_rwf@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> On Behalf Of Marc-Andre Laurin Sent: Wednesday, April 10, 2019 1:47 PM To: jc_rwf@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jc_rwf] FW: Request to join RWF Task Group on Safety Surfacing Approved Importance: High   Hi Mr. Snider,   We have some questions about the NSF 50 membership selection process.
