Submitter Comment
There are several things I am opposed to:
quarterly physical rehearsal
on site coordinator
using a local healthcare personnel
AED coordinator
Fitness director - 4 year degree or min. 3 years experience as a fitness professional
Requireing Hepatitis B vaccinations
14 page monthly audit- how much will that cost us?

Having a certified AED person on staff during business hours will substantially increase my costs of operation.
Having a fitness director have at least 3 years experience or a college degree would mean that I personally would not have even qualified to open my own gym.
A 14 page monthly audit for a small facility like mine is overkill. What good would the audit be if someone could just check yes or satifactory? That in itself makes the certification process of gyms questionable.
Regarding who is on the board of this committee -does anyone on that list represent the small guys like myself?
Submitter Proposed Solution
I do not feel that a voluntary certification is necessary in any form. Let the consumer decide where he wants to spend his money.
Developer Response
Dear Ms. Stevens:

Thank you for your comment on NSF 341 Health/Fitness Facilities.

This is a voluntary standard; therefore, it is not necessary to conform to the Standard. The Joint Committee approved a motion that a preamble be added to the document to explain that the purpose of the standard – certification process, it does not set an industry standard for care and emphasize personal responsibility. We are providing a means by which facilities such as those you describe can be certified. There are no federal statutes that require anything but a voluntary certification.

Please provide a written response via e-mail to Lorna Badman, Joint Committee on Health Fitness Facilities Secretariat, indicating whether your comment has been addressed. She can be reached at badman@nsf.org. If a response is not received by August 10, 2010, NSF will consider your comment addressed.

Thank you again for your thorough review.

Sincerely,

Dr. Walter Thompson
Joint Committee for Health Fitness Facilities, Chair
