the new wording would require all positive controls to be placed under the work tray or grill. I was under the impression this wording change was to create more flexibility and previously under or over was an option. I can see the potential issue with the exact location in the current wording so the change may be needed. I defer to the other manufacturers on the committee as to final wording for location.

NSF has not placed a control plate above the work surface in almost 20 years.  I don't object to leaving that an option but the chances a manufacturer would prefer it are remote.  Due to the spacing between the cylinder and the front grill, placing the control plate above that grill will virtually always create an obstruction of normal flow though the grill.  The main purpose of this ballot proposal is to allow flexibility with the location of the plate under the work surface, such that you do not obstruct the normal flow of air through the front grill.

I performed microbiological tests on BSC every day for 10 years and that control plate should be placed on short screws to suspended it above the front grill. The control plate doesn't affect the airflow into the front grill anymore than someones clothed arm extending into the work area. Without a control plate the product or containment tests are not scientifically valid.
