Should the scope of NSF/ANSI 457 be expanded to include inverters?
Background:
The European Commission is undertaking a preparatory study for potential Ecodesign, Ecolabel, GPP and energy labeling measures for photovoltaic (PV) modules, inverters and systems in the European Union. This preparatory study includes “photovoltaic modules, inverters and systems”, whereas the NSF 457 standard currently covers photovoltaic modules but does not cover inverters. There is interest within the PV industry sector to align NSF 457 with this initiative in the EU, and expand the scope of NSF 457 to include inverters. In order to do so, the JC would first need to approve the concept of expanding the scope, and then additional stakeholders with material interest in inverters will be invited to join the JC and a revision process will be launched under continuous maintenance. |
