Title Request for Interpretation - Seal in Rear Seam
Description

Do you agree with the requester’s interpretation that the raised rear perimeter seam does NOT require to be sealed as smooth because it is not subject to routine manual cleaning, splash or spillage?

In summary, our interpretation is that while the current standard does require the rear seam to be sealed it does NOT require raised rear perimeter seams of the drain trough to be sealed as smooth unless it is subject to routine manual cleaning, routine splash or spillage which most raised rear perimeter seams are not.

NSF / ANSI 2 – Food Equipment is referenced in NSF / ANSI 49, and figures within section 8 may be of guidance.
