I think that adding additional approved methods is a great idea, but this language is open to interpretation. The language indicates a lab can validate a test method themselves as being equivalent. I think it would be much better to just list the approved test methods in the standard. Perhaps NSF can poll the labs and ask for a list of test methods they would like to have added as alternates. Assuming the methods were from a valid agency like EPA, or already accepted by a body such as NELAP, we could add the methods into the standards.
