I will differ to members with more expertice in this area but, I could not convince myself there is a high level of confidence that inappropriate contaminants could not be inadvertantly introduced into drinking water.

More specifically, I was concerned about the numerous "when known", "when availble", etc. caviats for data requirements to be convinced that a material which is routinely used to remove hazardous contanimants wouldn't accumulate them, even unknowingly, and become a source of contamination to the next user.

Perhaps this topic is too complex to be resolved remotely. I suspect a direct responce to these issues would be forthcomming in an open forum discussion but were not readily apparent to me.
