Testing for potential food allergens is important. The ammendment to NLEA specifies 8 major food allergens to be indicated on the label if the product contains or may contain any or all of these food allergens.

It's important for consumers and scientists to also realize that while the detection limits for these and other potential allergens approach the theoretical zero, the clinical response to these ultra low levels may be absent. We should consider at what point is there a negligible risk or the absence of risk for an apparent allergic response by a consumer when exposed to low levels.
