If the revisions are meant to ensure that the inoculum density in the machine is what was verified on the bench, then I support the intent and change my vote from negative to affirmative, but I would recommend revisions.

  • Dispense from instead of dispense through.  "Dispense through" is less clear if the intent is to collect samples.
  • Add "all" to the 2nd sentence and delete "ensure the entire food contact flow path is exposed to sufficient challenge" from the 3rd sentence.  The act of dispensing samples does not ensure that all food contact surfaces were exposed to the inoculum.
  • Add a sentence at the end to compare Ni to the intended challenge density.
Submitter Proposed Solution

The equipment shall be filled with the E. coli suspension.  The equipment shall be operated so that all food contact surfaces are exposed to the E. coli suspension.  E. coli suspension shall be dispensed through from the equipment, collecting three 200-mL positive control samples from the dispense point to ensure the entire food contact flow path is exposed to sufficient challenge.  The average of the positive control samples shall serve as the initial inoculum density (Ni).  Ni shall be within the range of required density of E. coli culture suspension.
